Insanity

If you thought that Joe Biden winning the election was somehow going to make everything OK -or at least better- after four years of Trump, I admire your optimism. And although I hate to be a wet blanket or Debbie Downer, I'd like to call your attention to the fact that we still have the same exact two-party chokehold strangling this nation. It has and will always be Democrats vs. Republicans until we the people decide to do something about that. I hold out little hope of that though since the majority of us seem to love being part of a team. Trump was a prime example of how party comes before people. Party is apparently everything. To hell with morals, common sense, the greater good -all that stuff is meaningless when it comes to pumping up and supporting your party. Whether you're a Republican or a Democrat, you're after the same goal. Party above all else. We're seeing that play out now in grand fashion as we approach yet another ominous Government shutdown on December 11th if a continuing budget is not agreed upon. We also have millions of Americans losing their houses, their jobs, and their families because the Democrats and Republicans can't agree on a second pandemic relief plan. Both sides are dug in, towing their respective party line, unwilling to compromise. All the while our Commander in Tweets continues to claim he won the election while chasing a little white ball around his golf course. He certainly isn't willing or able to do anything to actually help the country at this point; he's too busy calculating his next moves in court. And while we hear both the Republican and Democratic leaders in Congress say how desperately concerned they are for the American people, their actions -or rather inaction- speaks louder than any words coming out of their mouths. And we the people just sit back and watch as both sides throw up their hands and blame the other party for the impasse. These 'leaders' in Congress and the Senate are obviously incapable of leading, of compromising, of doing what needs to be done. And yet they all continue to collect their big fat paychecks and enjoy some of the best health care money can buy. None of them are wondering where their next meal is coming from. None of them are worried about their next paycheck. None of them are wondering if and when their power or water will be cut off or when their mortgage company will start foreclosure proceedings against their house. No, they don't have to worry about any of that stuff. The only thing they are concerned about is towing their party line and blaming the other party for all the problems going on in the country. Why not? It's worked for a hundred years or so. They never get punished for their incompetence and greed. Hell no! They get RE-ELECTED time after time after time.

I'll close with my reciting my favorite definition when it comes to politics and this two-party chokehold. The word is INSANITY and the definition goes something like this: Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again while expecting a different result. Welcome to the United States of Insanity brought to by the Republican and Democratic parties. Enjoy.

How about now? Now can we have justice?

I sat in awe as I watched Cassidy Hutchinson testify before the January 6th Committee yesterday and paint a vividly clear picture of what was going on in Trump World before, during, and after January 6, 2021. Ms. Hutchinson was the proverbial fly on the wall throughout this entire saga and provided first-hand accounts of what was said and what was done -or rather not done- during this tragic day in America's history. She was physically there when all of it unfolded. I can't imagine the soul-searching it must have taken for her to finally come to terms with the fact that she was playing for the wrong team and then  courageously decide to share the truth so the entire country could understand how dangerously close our democracy came to collapsing. After witnessing the grotesque spectacle of a human being that is Donald Trump for way too many years, I was sure that nothing would shock or surprise me when it came to Trump and his enablers and supporters. I was sure of this b...

America: Land of the Knee-Jerk Reactions and One-Size-Fits-All Solutions

Another horrible, senseless school shooting. 19 innocent children dead along with 2 adults; the 18-year-old shooter dead and his grandmother seriously injured after he began his rampage by shooting her in the face. The shooter seems to be an all-too-familiar type; a bullied loner with few or no friends who legally purchased two AR-type assault rifles along with over 300 rounds of ammunition shortly before the shooting. We've seen this detail before too: the shooter posted his intentions on social media prior to carrying out the shooting. While we may have become accustomed to these types of tragedies, most of us are still left feeling like we were sucker-punched in the gut. And we have to deal with all those emotions yet again. Shock, horror, profound sadness, anger, fear, futility, frustration, helplessness. I've experienced all of those over and over again. It keeps on happening and we all keep arguing about how we're going to stop these tragedies from happening. Unfortun...

Gratitude

This Thanksgiving, one word comes to mind for me as a human being: GRATITUDE /ˈɡradəˌt(y)o͞od/   -noun-  the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.  Being thankful -truly thankful- requires a moment of pause, reflection, and introspection. I've come to realize that "happiness" is really just a state of mind. It's a person's ability to take stock of what they have and where they are in life and focus on those things in a positive and thankful manner. Take, for instance, the millions of people around the globe that are living in squalid conditions by most of our standards. They have very little food, clothing, or material possessions. Many lack a decent house, running water, or electricity. Their days are spent working and struggling just to survive another day. But, incredibly, many of these people are quick to smile and laugh. They're generous with what little they have and they are truly thankful for what little ...
