It Has Come Down to This

 It has come down to this.

A giant chasm dividing the left and the right. Each side screaming insults and accusations at the other across the dividing void. Since the middle is now an ever increasing gorge where no one from either side can stand without plunging into the abyss below, there exists no common ground to meet on. And as the expanse between the two sides grows deeper, so do the perceived differences.

The two-party chokehold around the necks of the American people becomes tighter and tighter as each side struggles for more power. Power which will be used to vilify and weaken the other side. Winners are declared by electoral votes but, these days, there are no real winners among the common citizenry. We all just lose more of our humanity, empathy, love and respect toward one another as we're all coerced into joining one of two sides.

And once we're firmly indoctrinated into a side, we're expected to fall in line behind the leaders of the side. Regardless if they're worthy of that leadership role or even posses the skill, intelligence, aptitude, and moral decency required to govern, lead, and -most importantly- unite both sides. No, it has come down to this. Two sides divided by issues they refuse to come together and resolve. Two sides that view each other as the enemy.

This is no time for parties.

 I've been thinking a lot about the end. My end. I'm currently over in Sweden with my wife. The purpose of this visit was supposed to be to celebrate 20 years of marital bliss and see some of her family. A chance to take it easy for a while. That was the purpose until my wife's stepmother, Monica, suddenly passed away at the beginning of August. We had already purchased our plane tickets for the end of September and it would've been expensive to try to change the flights. Plus, I couldn't take off of work any earlier than we had already planned for. So, with my wife's halfsister's help, we arranged to have Monica cremated and then planned for the funeral to take place when we got to Sweden.  Monica had no children, but my wife considers her more of a mom than her biological mom. Observations from the Front Lines

Observations from the front lines of the COVID-19 Pandemic. We're all on the front lines. We're all in this together. Granted some are in much worse situations than others. Everyone in my family still has a job to go to except for my 15-year-old daughter. She worked at a shirt and souvenir shop in Annapolis that has decided to close for the next couple of weeks. Months? The husband-wife owners of the shop are still trying to plot their way forward. The wife had another full-time job that she was just laid off from because of this pandemic. Like a one-two punch combination, now she and her husband are forced to close their shop and their only other source of income. They have two small kids and they're certainly not financially well off, by any stretch of the imagination. My wife's side gig as a professional face painter has, of course, come to a screeching halt. We were just coming into the busy season for face painting. How about now? Now can we have justice?

 I sat in awe as I watched Cassidy Hutchinson testify before the January 6th Committee yesterday and paint a vividly clear picture of what was going on in Trump World before, during, and after January 6, 2021. Ms. Hutchinson was the proverbial fly on the wall throughout this entire saga and provided first-hand accounts of what was said and what was done -or rather not done- during this tragic day in America's history. She was physically there when all of it unfolded. I can't imagine the soul-searching it must have taken for her to finally come to terms with the fact that she was playing for the wrong team and then  courageously decide to share the truth so the entire country could understand how dangerously close our democracy came to collapsing.
